ROREX’s Contribution to the Modernization of Irrigation Infrastructure
ROREX continues to support the modernization of Romania’s irrigation infrastructure by supplying GRP/PAFSIN pipes for one of the country’s most important rehabilitation projects: “Rehabilitation of the Izvoare–Cujmir Irrigation Scheme, Mehedinți County.” This project is part of the National Programme for the Rehabilitation of Romania’s Main Irrigation Infrastructure, a strategic programme implemented by ANIF through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
🌍 The Importance of the Izvoare–Cujmir Irrigation Scheme
According to official ANIF data, the Izvoare–Cujmir irrigation scheme covers:
-
Developed area: 63,889 ha
-
Operational area: 57,873 ha
This difference highlights the urgent need for investment. ANIF documents show that, at the national level:
-
a significant part of the main irrigation infrastructure is in an advanced state of deterioration;
-
water losses are extremely high in leaking canals and pipelines;
-
many systems operate with low energy efficiency.
The rehabilitation of irrigation schemes such as Izvoare–Cujmir is essential for reducing water losses, improving hydraulic efficiency, and ensuring a more reliable water supply to pumping and booster pumping stations.
🔧 ROREX’s Contribution: GRP Pipes for Water Conveyance
For this project, ROREX supplied large-diameter GRP pipes designed to meet the requirements of main irrigation infrastructure. These pipes are suitable for transporting large volumes of water while providing high mechanical strength and long-term durability under intensive operating conditions.
GRP pipes supplied by ROREX:
-
DN 1800, PN 6, SN 5000, L = 12 m
Quantity: 5,335 m and 38 fittings -
DN 2800, PN 6, SN 5000, L = 12 m
Quantity: 301 m and 14 fittings
ROREX GRP/PAFSIN pipes are manufactured to provide:
-
superior chemical and corrosion resistance;
-
reduced hydraulic losses due to their smooth internal surface;
-
a long service life;
-
increased efficiency in water conveyance and distribution.
In high-flow irrigation projects with relatively low nominal pressure, GRP/PAFSIN pipes are the optimal solution for replacing deteriorated structures and modernizing water-conveyance infrastructure.
🏗️ Project and Implementation Details
Beneficiary: ANIF Bucharest – Mehedinți Branch
Contractors: WAGRAMER TERMO 2000 SRL, CONDOR PADURARU SRL, STYH A&A SRL
Contract value: RON 382,841,143.23
The project was designed to improve the irrigation system serving an extensive agricultural area in Mehedinți, a county with significant agricultural activity. Under the National Programme for the Rehabilitation of Romania’s Main Irrigation Infrastructure, the scheme’s main infrastructure includes canals, hydraulic structures, pumping stations, and water-conveyance pipelines.
ROREX GRP pipes play a central role in modernizing the water-conveyance sections that require large-diameter pipelines with high structural strength.
🌱 The Project’s Impact on the Agricultural Area
The modernization of the Izvoare–Cujmir irrigation scheme:
-
reduces water losses within the main network;
-
improves the energy efficiency of pumping stations;
-
provides greater stability and predictability for agricultural producers;
-
contributes to agricultural resilience in the context of climate change;
-
supports the continuity of irrigation in an area of strategic importance for field crops.
By reducing water losses and optimizing infrastructure performance, the investment directly benefits agricultural producers and the local economy.
